A few tips for shopping the sale.

  1. Go into it knowing what you need.  After reviewing the preview, I will take a note of everything I want and see how it fits into my current wardrobe and determine if it’s a must have. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is a great time to stock up on staples in your wardrobe, things you will have for years to come!
  2. Set a budget

I make a small commission on any item you purchase when you access and check out through my affiliate link. I am so grateful for the support I’ve received and it allows me to keep sharing. To ensure the process works smoothly, it’s really quite simple. You can click on any link in this blog post and it will take you directly to the Nordstrom site, potentially to a specific item. Once you’re on the Nordstrom site (after clicking my link) you can start adding items to your shopping cart. Once you’re ready to check out stay in the same web browser and the process will go through smoothly. Often if you leave items in your cart and go back to it at a later date the “cookie” will have closed and the commission will be lost. If you decide to add things to your cart and go back at a later date, stop by here, click on my Nordstrom link and it will take you to the site with my active affiliate link.

Again, I am so appreciative of your support and would not be here if it weren’t for you! Thank you so much for supporting my small business.

The sale of the year

July 24, 2020

What you need to know about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2020

The one sale I’m guaranteed to shop every year is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. You’re probably wondering what’s so great about it. My answer; Nordstrom releases their fall merchandise and marks it down for the duration of the sale (two weeks) after the sale ends the prices go back up. I love that you get a sneak peak of what’s to come for fall and you get an opportunity to shop all the new arrivals at great prices.

Here’s what you need to know;

When is the sale? Starting July 24th, all shoppers have access to preview the sale items. You will be able to save your favorites to your Wish List so you can check out faster when it’s your time to shop. This is going to be key as things go quickly!

Nordstrom Cardholders have early access to shopping:

August 4th: Nordstrom Icon Early Access

August 7th: Nordstrom Ambassador Early Access

August 10th : Nordstrom Influencer Early Access

August 13th : Nordstrom Insiders Early Access

The Anniversary Sale is open to the public starting August 19th! Sale ends August 30th, prices go back up!

What’s nice about shopping at Nordstrom is their excellent customer service, free shipping & free returns, and their wide array of quality merchandise.

Key items I shop for during the sale, first stop; Shoes for the family (hello boots, booties, and activewear shoes). Next stop; Outwear, they always have the best coats from cold weather coats to your dressier peacoat. Then I head to the denim department, this is a great time to snag those designer jeans you’ve been wanting but haven’t wanted to pay full price! Then I’ll check out their cozy pieces, think Barefoot Dreams throw blankets or the famous circle cardigan (it really is the best!). Of course I’ll check out the kids department. They always have the cutest athletic wear pieces for Caleb and I’ll usually snag a couple on trend items for Kinsley. I could go on but some of my last stops are the Activewear department, Handbags, and of course the Beauty Department!

Spring Denim Short Try on

February 27, 2020

I don’t know about you but denim shorts might be one of my least favorite articles of clothing. This year I’m determined to find something that works for my body.

This is what I want in a short; something that doesn’t cut in at the waist, preferably doesn’t really touch my thighs, not too short, and of course, is flattering.

For size reference, I’m 5’2 and a 2/4. I generally have a hard time finding shorts because I carry a bit more weight in my thighs.

After trying 7 pairs of shorts, I’m happy to report I found a few pairs that work for me. Heck, I’m having a hard time figuring out which ones to return because I like them all so much. During my hunt for shorts, I found a couple more pairs that I would like to try. I’ll share those with you at the end.

Top Three:

Above are my top three, however, there are four from my try on session that I truly liked. Starting from left to right:

  1. Abercrombie Mid-Rise Boyfriend short: As soon as I tried these on, I knew I was going to like them. I just felt comfortable in them. They’re a mid-rise, 3 1/2 inseam, I chose the medium wash but they come in a handful of options. I like that there’s not too much distressing. Their a medium weight denim and feel like they won’t stretch out a ton. I went with a size 27 and have a little bit of room in the waist but I prefer that to having something that cuts in, even if they stretch slightly, I don’t want my shorts tight.
  2. AGOLDE Parker Vintage Loose fit cutoff : Why I liked them: Medium rise, not too much distressing, they didn’t touch my thighs and I loved the light(er) wash. The denim is a thicker weight which makes them a bit more flattering and they’re going to hold their shape. They’re a shorter than what I would normally go with at a 2 1/2inch inseam but since they’re not tight I feel comfortable in them. I’ve been wanting to try these for a while, I was wondering if they lived up to their high price tag and well, they do! They work for my curvy petite body and I feel good in them. They’re definitely an investment piece. After trying these, I want to try this high rise pair.
  3. AE 90’s Boyfriend Short– I saw these and new I wanted to try them. A major hint was that they had a boyfriend fit, to me that means they’re going to be a bit more generous in the thighs and they are! They have a “slouchier” fit, a high rise, and a 4inch inseam. They’re extremely comfortable. A thinner denim compared to the other two but stretchy and comfortable. I tried the 4 and 6 on in these and ultimately decided the 4 was the best fit. Keep in mind, I’m generally a 2/4. These come in a couple washes but I love this medium blue with the white distressing. So flattering.
  4. Not shown but very cute. Target Universal Thread High Rise Short. You can’t beat the price on these. They have a nice high rise, medium wash, 4 inch inseam and they’re comfortable! They have quite a bit of stretch. I will say these are the only pair that sat ON my thighs. They didn’t cut in but they did touch. Definitely worth trying. I got these in a 4 and they fit perfect.

Another look at the ones I liked:

The top I’m wearing in the pictures is so soft and comfortable, I love the color and it’s LONG. It could be worn with leggings or tucked in like I have here. I’m wearing a small but could have done an XS if I didn’t want a super oversized fit.

Sandals. I predict that these are the sandals of the season. They’re so pretty, come in two colors but the clear is my jam. I’m normally a 6.5/7 and went with a 7. I haven’t worn them out of the house yet (it’s too cold) but while wearing them around the house I haven’t found them to be uncomfortable. You can get a closet look at them here.

Here are the denim shorts I tried on and didn’t like:

I really wanted to like the Levi’s but they were way too tight on my legs. Immediately uncomfortable and I didn’t even want to give them a chance to stretch out. The Abercrombie “Mom” shorts were way too short, but I loved the high rise and I felt like they could have been great with a couple added inches in the inseam. The Target Wild Fable, they were too short, too much fabric in the front but kind of cut in at the waist and they cut in on ONE thigh? Old Navy boyfriend shorts, too short.

I find it ironic that a few of the 3 inch inseam shorts felt too short but the 2 1/2 felt just fine. That goes to show, you can’t just go off inseam, the fabric and fit are equally if not more important.

After trying these shorts, I found three more I would like to try. All brands that I’m familiar and would order a size 4 in:

I hope you enjoyed this blog post. Thank you so much for shopping through my links. I would love for you to leave a comment if you found it helpful!
