Welcome to my first Workout Wednesday! This is where I’ll be sharing my postpartum fitness journey. I’ll open up about my accomplishments, set-backs, before and afters, my goals and of course, what I’ve been wearing!
First I would like to share a little bit about my fitness experience. It really started when I was in high school, I was a cheerleader and also dated a guy that was in the gym way too much. At the time I really had no idea what I was doing, I took some classes but mainly did a lot of cardio. That went on for many years. Until I started taking Kettle Bell classes, which evolved to CrossFit and now I really enjoy a bit of it all, my gym calls it Hybrid training. I do a mix of barbell, Kettle Bell, HIIT and everything in between. I truly love it. Well, right now I have a love/hate relationship with it but I plan to get back to loving it.
I started at Grit 5 weeks after having Kinsley and never looked back. Can you believe, I lost 20+lbs without stepping foot on a treadmill?!? I would have never thought I could do that before. I actually got in the best shape of my life after Kins, I was faster, stronger, and more confident than I had ever been AND at 7months PP. I definitely wasn’t the smallest I had ever been but I was the healthiest- mentally and physically. Thats what I plan to get back to!
I’m currently 7 weeks PP, started back at the gym last Saturday and let me tell you, that was a humbling experience. I felt like I was starting over. The 35 lb bar felt heavy! I was slow, stiff and weak. I felt like a pile of jelly. No joke. But I did it! I didn’t give up and I got through the work out. I did manage to give myself a pretty painful clogged milk duct. So, if you’re nursing/pumping take note! I was doing an assisted pull-up with the band and the pressure of the band on my breast caused it. I know the exact moment it happened and I actually couldn’t clear it for almost 24 hours. It was terrible and extremely painful. On top of the clogged duct, I got VERY sore. Far more sore than I was expecting. I mean how could I get so sore?!? I worked out throughout my entire pregnancy and I did very little weight for this workout. It was discouraging to say the least BUT I went back!
So here’s where I’m at… 7 weeks PP. I gained 44lbs during my pregnancy and I’m 14lbs away from my pre-Kolette weight. My goal is to hit the gym 3-5 times/week and watch what I eat but I’m currently not planning to take any extreme measures. I’ve found if I put myself on a strict diet that I end up being unsuccessful and get really depressed. Originally I wanted to be at my pre-Kolette weight by Kinsley’s third birthday, July 3rd but the more I think about it, I’d like to be there sooner. We’ll see… Each week I plan to share how many pounds I’ve lost (if any!) and any other information I see important; changes to my diet, work outs, etc. This week is more of an introduction. I hope you’ll stick around. I would love to be your supporter, cheerleader, inspiration, really whatever you need!
One thing that helps me get back in the gym when I’m really not feeling good about myself is new workout gear. A couple weeks ago I ordered myself a few new things so I would be prepared. I picked up new leggings, a few tops, a sports bra and I have new training shoes on the way. The pants are a must have, I actually just ordered my second pair. They’re affordable, supportive and comfortable. I’ll keep you posted on the shoes. Maybe next week I’ll have a review?
Really love this super affordable work out top, it comes in 4 colors. I’m wearing a medium. My sports bra is ADORABLE but not good for high impact training, I have a large but should have got a medium. Sweatshirt is great for layering and will take you through Spring. It comes in a few colors! My shoes are old but I recently ordered these and I’m really interested in theses Adidas.
This is what I wore to the gym today:
This top. Under $20, comes in multiple comes, ships prime and is super cute. I love the mesh detail, the tie back (I tied it during my work out but left it open before). This top will be great as I lose weight because the tie allows me to tighten it! Major win! Another great work out top purchase: THIS. It’s also under $20, ships prime, and comes in a few colors, I have charcoal! I’m definitely ordering black!
So, that’s all I’ve got! I can’t wait to see how this series evolves. Thanks again for following along.
